Lisa and Matt…
Lisa – I once watched a doco about 2 guys somewhere in Scandinavia who lived on a remote and isolated beach for a year, building a hut to live in from washed up rubbish, surfing every day and basically just being free. This quote has stuck in my head since – ‘It was just a crazy idea. And then that crazy idea became our life. We did what we wanted, when we wanted.’ I feel that in a very different way, Matt and I have achieved the same thing. No deadlines, no timetables, just watching the wind and the weather, staying somewhere we like and moving on when we’re ready. I’ve always enjoyed travelling and seeing new places, as well as seeking out adventure and challenge. Together, Matt and I trained to run a marathon, completed an Ironman, travelled overseas, paddled 1380 km of the Murray River (we haven’t quite finished yet), learnt to sail and bought a yacht. I am a Special Education teacher, and have spent the past 10 years working at a Special Developmental School in Melbourne.
Matt – The person other men want to be and the guy other women want to be with. A cross between a myth and a legend. It is hard to say where his swagger comes from, but wherever it is it is a place that is steeped in mystery and future celebrity. He is most at home on the sea, chasing the waves and refusing to reef the mainsail until the winds are above 30 knots. Some call him arrogant, but he doesn’t pay any heed to the naysayers, too busy cutting his own path.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade wind in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
